Portland, Oregon winebars.
Wine shopping can be challenging. After all, most wine merchants aren’t exactly thrilled about opening a bottle so you can taste before you buy. But at a growing number of Portland winebars, you can choose from increasingly diverse lists of wines by the glass—sampling “flights” (usually three to five small pours) of highlighting different varietals or regions, or just order a glass or two of what you like. Many also offer small plates of wine-friendly foods to give you good idea of what you like…or don’t. But at an average of $3 to $7 per glass, it’s fun to take a few risks you might not otherwise be willing to seek out.
